Transfer zones in Mediterranean back-arc regions and tear faults

Laurent Jolivet et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the diverse structures in the back-arc regions of the Mediterranean and discusses the distribution of deformation between high-angle and low-angle faults, illustrating the importance of slab tearing for the evolution of this region.

The meeting place of backarc and foreland rifting: The example of the offshore western Sicily (Central Mediterranean)

Alfonsa Milia et al.

Summary: The simultaneous rifting processes affecting both backarc, thrust belt, and foreland occurred in the offshore western Sicily. Two zones characterized by basins with different directions of extension have been recognized in the study area, one trending NE-SW and located south of the Egadi Islands, and another trending E-W and positioned north of the Egadi Islands. These findings provide insights into the geodynamic evolution of the African and Eurasian plates in the Central Mediterranean.

DEFORMATION-SEDIMENTATION FEEDBACK AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANOMALOUSLY THICK AGGRADATIONAL TURBIDITE LOBES: OUTCROP AND SUBSURFACE EXAMPLES FROM THE HIKURANGI MARGIN, NEW ZEALAND

Adam D. McArthur et al.

Summary: The study examines the sedimentation patterns along the Hikurangi subduction margin, revealing the interplay between different density sediment deposits and the underlying mechanisms. It demonstrates the complex interactions between geological structures and sediment in deep marine environments.
