Characterization of the marine aquaculture microbiome: A seasonal survey in a seabass farm

Roxane Roquigny et al.

Summary: This study conducted in a seabass farm in northern France revealed that bacterial communities in biofilms and tanks were more diverse compared to water inlets. The majority of phylum diversity was composed of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes, with Vibrionaceae family isolates predominantly found in tank water samples. The persistence of Vibrionaceae in biofilms suggests their potential role as a reservoir in case of dysbiosis in aquaculture environments.

Development of Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. masoucida vaccine in turbot and evaluation of protection efficacy under field conditions

Yongwei Yan et al.

Summary: A developed A. salmonicida subsp. masoucida inactivated vaccine for turbot has been proven to be effective in protecting the fish for at least 24 weeks under both laboratory and field conditions, with the emulsified vaccine showing better results than the water based vaccine. The vaccine not only reduces the infection probability by other pathogens or parasites, but also promotes fish growth without severe side-effects.

Novel lytic bacteriophages (AhFM4 & AhFM5) as bio-control measures against multidrug resistant biofilm producing Aeromonas hydrophila (AhZ1K)

M. S. Nithin et al.

Summary: Motile Aeromonas Septicemia, caused by Aeromonas hydrophila, has led to significant economic losses in aquaculture. The study identified a virulent strain of A. hydrophila with multidrug resistance and biofilm production, posing a threat to fish health in aquaculture. Novel lytic bacteriophages were isolated as a potential alternative to antibiotics for controlling A. hydrophila infections.

Kiwifruit bacterial canker: an integrative view focused on biocontrol strategies

Carla Pereira et al.

Summary: This study highlights phage-based biocontrol strategies as an effective alternative to control Psa-induced bacterial canker of kiwifruit. Current treatments for Psa infections are limited, and it is crucial to avoid the use of copper products and antibiotics to prevent the development of bacterial resistance. Therefore, developing new approaches to combat Psa is essential for sustainable agriculture production.
