Fractionation, structural characteristics and immunomodulatory activity of polysaccharide fractions from asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) skin

Nifei Wang et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties, structural features, and structure-immunomodulatory activity relationship of pectic polysaccharides from white asparagus skin were systematically studied. Five sub-fractions with different DE and Mw were obtained, and the one with higher DE value showed stronger immunomodulatory activity. The study discussed the structure-activity relationship, expanding the application of asparagus and its processing by-products.

Characterization of selenized polysaccharides from Ribes nigrum L. and its inhibitory effects on α-amylase and α-glucosidase

Meimei Zhao et al.

Summary: The polysaccharide from Ribes nigrum L. was modified using nitric acid-sodium selenite method, resulting in selenized polysaccharides with improved water solubility and enzyme inhibition compared to the native polysaccharide. The selenized polysaccharides displayed reversible inhibition on two enzymes and formed complexes mainly driven by hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding.

Natural deep eutectic solvents pretreatment as an aid for pectin extraction from apple pomace

Mingrui Chen et al.

Summary: Three natural deep eutectic solvents were tested as pretreatments for apple pomace prior to pectin extraction. CC:LA and CC:U pretreatments showed similar overall recovery yields, while CC:OA led to polysaccharide degradation. CC:LA pretreatment at 40 degrees C for 1 hour helped maintain cell wall monosaccharide composition and facilitated extraction of high molecular weight pectin.
