Quantification of re-refined engine oil bottoms (REOB) in asphalt binder using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy associated with partial least squares (PLS) regression

Chuanqi Yan et al.

Summary: This study introduces the use of Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression in Attenuated Total Reflection-Flourier Transformed Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy analysis to determine the content of REOB in asphalt binders. The results show that an accurate prediction model can be derived using PLS regression analysis on the ATR-FTIR spectra of REOB blends.

Aquafaba from Korean Soybean II: Physicochemical Properties and Composition Characterized by NMR Analysis

Yue He et al.

Summary: The study found correlations between the physical, chemical, and hydration properties of soybeans and AQ yield and functional properties, and identified 20 compounds through NMR analysis, including alcohols, organic acids, sugars, essential nutrients, amino acids, and polyphenols. The process involved soaking the seeds of selected Korean soybean cultivars to produce AQ, an oil emulsifier and foaming agent suitable for use as an egg substitute with improved emulsion/foam formation properties.

Microbiological Quality Assessment of Chicken Thigh Fillets Using Spectroscopic Sensors and Multivariate Data Analysis

Evgenia D. Spyrelli et al.

Summary: FT-IR and MSI were evaluated for predicting the microbiological quality of poultry meat, with SVM model coupled to MSI data exhibiting the highest performance in predicting TVCs and Pseudomonas spp. counts. In the case of FT-IR, improved classification was obtained with the QDA model. These results confirm the efficacy of MSI and FT-IR as rapid methods to assess the quality in poultry products.

Application of 13C Quantitative NMR Spectroscopy to Isotopic Analyses for Vanillin Authentication Source

Concetta Pironti et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the feasibility of using C-13-NMR spectroscopy to determine the carbon stable isotope ratio of small organic molecules like vanillin, proving it to be a valuable alternative method. By comparing results from different analysis methods, the origin of vanillin can be accurately identified to ensure its quality.

Raman and Infrared Spectroscopic Data Fusion Strategies for Rapid, Multicomponent Quantitation of Krill Oil Compositions

Fatema Ahmmed et al.

Summary: Krill oil contains essential long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA, as well as the keto-carotenoid astaxanthin. Raman spectroscopy proved effective in accurately quantifying astaxanthin in krill oil, while the fusion of IR and Raman data did not improve the quantification models. Mid-level fusion was found to provide more accurate quantification of EPA+DHA compared to standalone Raman or IR spectroscopy.
