Curcumin in decellularized goat small intestine submucosa for wound healing and skin tissue engineering

Hemant Singh et al.

Summary: Biomaterials derived from ECM, such as the decellularized G-SIS scaffold embedded with curcumin, showed porous, biodegradable, biocompatible, antibacterial, and hydrophilic properties with sustained release of curcumin. Increasing curcumin content led to decreased porosity and hydrophilicity, but increased biodegradability, free radical scavenging, biocompatibility, and antibacterial properties. The scaffold containing 1 wt % of curcumin may be a potential biomaterial for wound-healing and skin tissue engineering.

Digestion of curcumin-fortified yogurt in short/long gastric residence times using a near-real dynamic in vitro human stomach

Qianyu Ye et al.

Summary: The study utilized a dynamic in vitro human stomach (DIVHS) to simulate realistic gastric conditions and investigate controlled release from foods. By incorporating curcumin-whey protein microparticles into yogurt during short/long gastric residence times, it was found that proteolysis and dilution played important roles in influencing digesta viscosity, and the maximum curcumin release was dependent on gastric emptying kinetics in each residence time. This research highlights the significance of understanding the impact of gastrointestinal processes on targeted release formulations.

Effects of different stabilizers on colloidal properties and encapsulation efficiency of vitamin D3 loaded nano-niosomes

Vahideh Talebi et al.

Summary: This study prepared vitamin D-3 loaded nano-niosomes and evaluated their physicochemical properties. The addition of vitamin E acetate and cholesterol significantly increased niosome size, while the addition of vitamin E acetate had a significant effect on encapsulation efficiency. The optimal formulation was selected to have the highest antioxidant capacity and encapsulation efficiency.

Curcumin encapsulated dual cross linked sodium alginate/ montmorillonite polymeric composite beads for controlled drug delivery

O. Sreekanth Reddy et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to fabricate dual cross linked sodium alginate/montmorillonite microbeads as a potential drug carrier for extended release of curcumin. Characterization of the microbeads was done using FTIR, DSC, TGA, X-RD, and SEM. The swelling and in vitro release studies of the microbeads were influenced by the pH of test media, indicating their potential for intestinal drug delivery.

Tuning Alginate Microparticle Size via Atomization of Non-Newtonian Fluids

Beatriz Arauzo et al.

Summary: A new approach based on the atomization of non-Newtonian fluids was proposed to produce microparticles for inhalation. Through experiments with different crosslinkers, it was found that the pressure ratio is a key factor in the atomization process. It is possible to control the microparticle size by modifying the viscoelasticity of the hydrogel or the experimental conditions.
