Polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism in three fish species with different trophic level

A. Galindo et al.

Summary: Reducing fishfeed dependency and species diversification are crucial for sustainable aquaculture development. Substituting fish oil with vegetable oils is economically feasible, but may compromise the nutritional value. Three fish species were studied for their potential to biosynthesize LC-PUFA, showing promise for aquaculture diversification.

New Insights into Alterations in PL Proteins Affecting Their Binding to DNA after Exposure of Mytilus galloprovincialis to Mercury-A Possible Risk to Sperm Chromatin Structure?

Gennaro Lettieri et al.

Summary: The exposure of Mytilus galloprovincialis to doses of HgCl2 induced alterations in protamine-like protein properties, affecting their ability to bind and protect DNA. Turbidity assays and fluorescence spectroscopy confirmed mercury-induced structural rearrangements and conformational changes, while salt-induced release analyses showed decreased PL-DNA binding. These findings provide insight into the molecular mechanism of mercury-related infertility in mussels.

Advances in Egyptian Mediterranean Coast Climate Change Monitoring

Matteo Gentilucci et al.

Summary: This study characterizes and analyzes non-indigenous fish species in the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, showing an increasing trend in sea surface temperatures and the lack of clear correlation with air temperatures. The study highlights temperature breakpoints in 2005-2006 and 2001, which may have influenced the settlement of non-indigenous fish species in coastal areas.
