Summary: This study aimed to improve the mineralization of the recalcitrant antibiotic metronidazole by developing a new combined process of electro-Fenton and a biological process. By combining autochthonous bioaugmentation and biostimulation, a mineralization rate of 96.1% was achieved after 120 hours, with a global treatment reaching a mineralization yield of 97% and reducing processing time by 16 days compared to conventional biological treatment.
