Evaluation of direct contact membrane distillation coupled with fractionation and ozonation for the treatment of textile effluent

Jianhua Zhang et al.

Summary: The combination of direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) with fractionation or ozonation as a pretreatment method for the treatment of combined textile effluent was investigated. The results showed that fractionation and ozonation were effective in reducing total organic carbon (TOC) and improving water recovery rates, with ozonation also able to lighten the color of the effluent and inhibit membrane wetting.

Bispacer Multi-Stage Direct Contact Membrane Distillation System: Analytical and Experimental Study

Morteza Aliabadi et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-staged direct contact membrane distillation (MDCMD) system with a novel bispacer configuration was designed to increase mechanical stability and turbulence, ultimately providing higher permeate flux. Analytical and experimental approaches were used to examine the impact of bispacer and feed operating conditions on the performance and sustainability of the developed MDCMD system. Parameters such as thermal efficiency, gained output ratio, and temperature polarization coefficient were analyzed to evaluate the system.

Pilot and full-scale applications of membrane processes for textile wastewater treatment: A critical review

Basak Keskin et al.

Summary: Textile industries consume a large amount of water and their wastewater, which contains high concentrations of pollutants, needs to be treated before discharge. Membrane processes are widely used for this purpose due to their advantages. Research has mostly been conducted on lab-scale, with pilot and full-scale systems gradually being applied. Hybrid systems are commonly used in treating textile wastewater, showing good filtration and treatment performance. Cleaning methods and economic feasibility for membrane processes are also examined. Further research and improvements in full-scale studies are needed for future advancement.

High aspect ZnO nanorod growth over electrodeposited tubes for photocatalytic degradation of EtBr dye

Hrudaya Jyoti Biswal et al.

Summary: This work synthesized vertically grown rod type ZnO nanostructures on metallic nickel tube films using the cost-effective process of electroforming. The use of tubular metal substrates for the growth of ZnO nanorods showed advantages for photocatalytic degradation of EtBr dye. XRD and FESEM were used to characterize the nickel tubes with ZnO nanorods, and the photocatalytic efficacy was revealed through comprehensive mineralization of the dye within 150 min. The study also included DFT analysis to investigate the adsorption properties of EtBr on ZnO nanorods and the growth of nanorods on electroformed Ni tubes.
