Ejection and breakup behaviors of a novel direct contact thermal storage using ejection PCM

Donghao Fan et al.

Summary: A novel method of ejecting molten PCM into HTF was proposed to solve the blocking issue and improve heat exchange efficiency. Four stages of ejection and breakup behaviors were observed, and the relationship between operation parameters and particle diameters was quantificationally analyzed. Higher ejection velocity, smaller nozzle size, and lower ejection temperature lead to smaller particle diameters during breakup processes.

Thermal performance enhancement of a phase change material (PCM) based portable box for cold chain applications

Binjian Nie et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that the composite PCMs have good cyclability and chemical stability. The addition of 4 wt.% fumed silica could eliminate PCM leakage, while adding 1 wt.% of graphene increased the thermal conductivity by 55.4%. Using the composite PCMs led to a 6.25% reduction in charging time, providing a temperature environment of 2 to 8 degrees C for up to 11.5 hours. The overall energy efficiency increased by 12.58% with the use of the composite PCMs.

Experimental Investigation on Enhanced Energy Storage Characteristics of Spherically Encapsulated 1-Decanol/Expanded Graphite Composite for Cold Storage System

Solaimalai Raja Rakkappan et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that the 1-Decanol-Expanded graphite composite (CPCM) has superior performance in cold thermal energy storage systems, with the ability to store latent heat at higher wall temperatures. Using CPCM as the cold energy storage medium significantly reduces energy storage time and improves efficiency in storage and release.
