Lipidomic profiling of plasma free fatty acids in type-1 diabetes highlights specific changes in lipid metabolism

Amelie I. S. Sobczak et al.

Summary: This study investigated the plasma concentrations of free fatty acid species in individuals with Type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared to healthy controls. The results showed reduced concentrations of specific FFA species in the T1DM group, along with increased saturated/unsaturated FFA ratio and other indices related to lipid metabolism. Age and HbA1c levels were found to have correlations with certain FFA concentrations and indices in T1DM patients.

Summary: This study found that individuals with low fish intake or low plasma phospholipid n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) concentrations had a higher risk of developing diabetes if they carried GAD65 antibodies, while high fish intake or high n-3 PUFA concentrations may partially counteract this risk.

Resolvin D1 Decreases Severity of Streptozotocin-Induced Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus by Enhancing BDNF Levels, Reducing Oxidative Stress, and Suppressing Inflammation

Summary: RVD1 can prevent STZ-induced type 1 diabetes by its anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant actions and by activating the Pdx gene that is needed for pancreatic beta cell proliferation. The study results suggest that RVD1 can alleviate the severity of type 1 diabetes through multiple pathways.
