Tryptophan in poultry nutrition: Impacts and mechanisms of action

Ahmed Mohamed Fouad et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that supplementing amino acids not commonly found in poultry diets can optimize productivity, immune system, antioxidant status, and meat and egg quality. Tryptophan (Trp) plays a crucial role in protein anabolism and indirectly affects hormone secretion and immune organ development. This review discusses the importance of Trp in poultry production and suggests further research areas to address information gaps.

Effect of dietary black cumin seed (Nigella sativa) on performance, immune status, and serum metabolites of small ruminants: A meta-analysis

Sadarman et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing levels of black cumin seeds in the diet linearly increased average daily gain and dry matter intake in lambs, but had no effect on sheep. Nitrogen intake and digestion were significantly increased as levels of BCS increased, while organic matter, crude protein, and ether extract intakes tended to increase.

Growth performance, intestinal histomorphology, gut microflora and ghrelin gene expression analysis of broiler by supplementing natural growth promoters: A nutrigenomics approach

Syed Muddassar Hussain Gilani et al.

Summary: In an era of increasing antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it is crucial to develop efficient and innovative feeding strategies for animal nutrition as alternatives to antibiotics. By utilizing a nutrigenomic approach, the study found that adding phytobiotics can enhance feed intake and body weight in chickens, improve intestinal tissue structure, and down-regulate ghrelin gene expression levels. Organic acids were shown to significantly reduce the levels of coliform and Escherichia coli in the cecum and ileum, with a positive correlation between Lactobacillus spp. and villus height/crypt depth ratio in the duodenum.

Meta-analysis of the responses of laying hens to garlic (Allium sativum) supplementation

I. P. Ogbuewu et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that garlic supplementation significantly increased hen day egg production, egg weight, egg shell thickness, and egg shell weight in laying hens, with no effect on feed intake and Haugh unit. The form and level of garlic preparation can affect its impact on egg weight. Factors such as study country, breed, hen's age, garlic preparation form, inclusion level of garlic, number of hens included in the study, and treatment duration also influence the effects observed.

R. Shalini et al.

Summary: Conventional methods of extracting fructan from plants involve using water combined with methanol or ethanol in different ratios, times, and temperatures. In this study, the most effective method for extracting fructan from garlic was found to be with 62.5% methanol at 55°C for 15 minutes. Utilizing a rapid solvent extractor system with 70% methanol at room temperature also significantly increased fructan yield.

Potential role of important nutraceuticals in poultry performance and health-A comprehensive review

Mahmoud Alagawany et al.

Summary: The use of antibiotics in poultry as growth promoters is restricted in many countries due to concerns about antibiotic resistance and drug residues in food. There is a global trend towards limiting antibiotic use in animal products, leading to a demand for natural alternatives that can promote growth without the negative effects associated with antibiotics. Nutraceuticals have been identified as a viable option, as they can enhance growth and benefit poultry health without the risks associated with antibiotics.
