An Overview on Industrial and Medical Applications of Bio-Pigments Synthesized by Marine Bacteria

Summary: Marine bacterial species contribute significantly to the oceanic population, producing biologically effectual moieties with various medical and industrial applications. The use of marine-derived bacterial pigments is increasing due to their natural, environmentally safe, and health beneficial compounds, with potential applications in food, pharmaceutical, textile, and cosmetic industries. The biodegradability and high environmental compatibility of marine bio-pigments make them a valuable alternative to synthetic colors, especially in industries where concerns over hazardous effects are present.

Heterologous Production of β-Caryophyllene and Evaluation of Its Activity against Plant Pathogenic Fungi

Summary: Terpenoids are a diverse group of secondary metabolites with potential commercial applications in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. This study successfully implemented the plant sesquiterpenoid pathway in the heterologous host Rhodobacter capsulatus to produce beta-caryophyllene, which showed promising anti-fungal bioactivity. The compounds inhibited the growth of certain plant pathogenic fungi, suggesting they could be used for fungal management in agricultural crop production.
