Exploring key ionic interactions for magnesium degradation in simulated body fluid ? A data-driven approach

Berit Zeller-Plumhoff et al.

Summary: The study examined the degradation of pure magnesium wire in simulated body fluid under physiological conditions and predicted the degradation rate based on the medium's ionic composition. A non-linear relationship was discovered between degradation rate and the precipitation of calcium salts, with a mean absolute error of 1.35 mm/yr in predicting the degradation rate. This relatively high value suggests that ionic interactions are complex or that an unknown parameter influencing degradation may be present.
