Sub-lethal Camphor Exposure Triggers Oxidative Stress, Cardiotoxicity, and Cardiac Physiology Alterations in Zebrafish Embryos

Zheng-Cai Du et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that camphor has toxic effects on zebrafish embryos, leading to decreased hatching rate, body length, increased malformation rate, and cardiotoxicity. Exposure to camphor also inhibited antioxidant capacity, elevated oxidative stress, and increased the number of apoptotic cells in zebrafish.

Co-Treatment of Copper Oxide Nanoparticle and Carbofuran Enhances Cardiotoxicity in Zebrafish Embryos

Ferry Saputra et al.

Summary: The use of chemicals to boost food production is increasing in parallel with human consumption, however, the overuse of pesticides may have adverse effects on aquatic animals. A study found that a combination of copper oxide nanoparticles and carbofuran enhances toxicity on the cardiovascular performance of zebrafish larvae, leading to cardiac edema and rhythm disturbances. Furthermore, molecular docking data suggest that carbofuran inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, impairing cardiac rhythms.

Measurement of Multiple Cardiac Performance Endpoints in Daphnia and Zebrafish by Kymograph

Kevin Adi Kurnia et al.

Summary: A new ImageJ-based method using kymograph macros language was developed in this study, allowing simultaneous measurement of multiple cardiac performance endpoints. This one-stop method provides a convenient and accurate tool for studying cardiovascular diseases.
