Summary: Animal brain tumor models have shown a synergistic interaction between radiation therapy and a ketogenic diet, with metformin potentially enhancing the efficacy. However, high doses of metformin were poorly tolerated in this phase I clinical trial. The combination of a Modified Atkins Diet with metformin was well tolerated and associated with higher serum ketone levels, supporting further investigation into its potential benefits.

Metformin and Risk of Malignant Brain Tumors in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
