Conditional Survival of Patients Who Underwent Curative Resection for Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Dong Wook Shin et al.

Summary: By analyzing conditional survival estimates of esophageal cancer patients, it was found that these estimates generally increase over time, with the largest improvements observed for patients with advanced stage. Providing updated prognosis at various time points allows clinicians to better guide their patients; furthermore, even after 5 years, esophageal cancer patients still face a higher risk of recurrence and sustained excess mortality compared to the general population.

Systematic profiling of ferroptosis gene signatures predicts prognostic factors in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Tong Lu et al.

Summary: A predictive model associated with ferroptosis was developed to provide a comprehensive view of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) immunotherapy. The model identified 45 differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes and established a prognostic model based on Cox regression analyses, with a predictive nomogram for overall survival. Low-risk patients showed a higher proportion of activated immune system genes and demonstrated the relevance of immune microenvironment for patient outcomes.

Summary: SLC7A11, GPX4, and AIFM2 are dysregulated in many types of cancers, and are candidate prognostic biomarkers for many types of cancers, as well as being able to evaluate the infiltration of immune cells in tumor tissues.
