The emerging naturally reassortant strain of IBDV (genotype A2dB3) having segment A from Chinese novel variant strain and segment B from HLJ 0504-like very virulent strain showed enhanced pathogenicity to three-yellow chickens

Weiwei Wang et al.

Summary: This study confirmed the emergence of the novel variant infectious bursal disease virus (nvIBDV) and its reassortant strains, and also discovered that a naturally reassortant nvIBDV strain with a segment from the HLJ 0504-like vvIBDV can significantly enhance pathogenicity to chickens.

Characterization of antigenic variant infectious bursal disease virus strains identified in South Korea

Tuyet Ngan Thai et al.

Summary: Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is a significant immunosuppressive disease in young chickens. A novel antigenic variant IBDV lineage was identified in China, and a coinfection case involving this variant and a very virulent IBDV strain was found. The coexistence of two sub-groups of avIBDVs in South Korea confirms the evolution of antigenic variant IBDV strains, emphasizing the need for new intervention strategies.

Development and evaluation of a recombinant VP2 neutralizing epitope antigen vaccine candidate for infectious bursal disease virus

Xiaochen Guo et al.

Summary: This study confirmed the five neutralizing epitopes of IBDV VP2 protein, constructed NEA protein, and evaluated the immune effect and protective immunity of NEA protein with different adjuvants in specific-pathogen-free chickens. The experimental results demonstrated that GM-CSF was the optimal adjuvant, and chickens immunized with NEA vaccines showed stronger immune responses and protection.
