Arsenic-Imposed Effects on Schwertmannite and Jarosite Formation in Acid Mine Drainage and Coupled Impacts on Arsenic Mobility

Edward D. Burton et al.

Summary: This study explores the interactions between As and Fe(III) minerals in acid mine drainage, revealing that arsenic significantly influences the formation and evolution of Fe(III) minerals. Arsenic has a significant impact on the stability and enrichment of Fe(III) minerals, triggering new mineral formation reactions.

Arsenic Partitioning during Schwertmannite Dissolution and Recrystallization in the Presence of Fe(II) and Oxalic Acid

Xiaohu Jin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of oxalic acid on the transformation and redistribution behavior of coprecipitated As during Fe(II)-induced schwertmannite conversion. The results showed that oxalic acid played a synergistic role in the dissolution and transformation of schwertmannite in mixed Fe(II)-oxalic acid systems. In addition, more adsorbed As formed in the Fe(II) treatment without oxalic acid, and no As(III) was detected in any reaction system at the end of incubation. These findings have important implications for accurately predicting the geochemical behavior of As in AMD-contaminated areas.

Mechanisms of Cr(VI) adsorption on schwertmannite under environmental disturbance: Changes in surface complex structures

Xiaofei Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the adsorption mechanisms of Cr(VI) on schwertmannite surfaces. The experiments revealed that ion exchange reactions with sulfate led to the formation of inner-sphere complexes. XPS and FTIR analysis further confirmed this adsorption mechanism. MCR-ALS analysis showed that the proportion of monodentate and bidentate complexes was influenced by pH fluctuations.
