Facile syntheses of 3-trifluoromethylthio substituted thioflavones and benzothiophenes via the radical cyclization

Summary: 3-CF3S substituted thioflavones and benzothiophenes were achieved through reactions of AgSCF3 with methylthiolated alkynones and alkynylthioanisoles, promoted by persulfate. This protocol shows good functional group tolerance and high yields. Mechanistic studies indicate a classic two-step radical process involving addition of CF3S radical to triple bond and cyclization with SMe moiety.

An Efficient Synthesis of (1-Methyl)-2-phenyl-4-quinolones from (N-Methyl)isatoic Anhydride

Summary: The acyl substitution of (N-methyl)isatoic anhydride with N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride in CH3CN produced N-methoxy-N-methyl 2-(N-methyl)aminobenzamide, which was further reacted with ethynyllithium reagents to yield 1-[2-(N-methyl)amino]-3-phenyl-2-propyn-1-ones. The 6-endo cyclization of 1-[2-(N-methyl)amino]-3-phenyl-2-propyn-1-ones using NaOCH3 in CH3OH at 65 degrees C resulted in various (1-methyl)-2-phenyl-4-quinolone derivatives in high yields.
