Kai Ling Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption behavior of cationic and anionic dyes onto wet-torrefied Chlorella sp. microalgal biochar. The Langmuir isotherm was found to be the best model fit, suggesting monolayer adsorption as the dominant process, with maximum adsorption capacities of 113.00 mg/g for MB and 164.35 mg/g for CR. The results indicate that utilizing wet-torrefied microalgal biochar as an effective adsorbent for toxic dye removal is feasible.

The volatilization of heavy metals during combustion of polyvinyl chloride after hydrothermal carbonization

Chuncheng Ke et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal carbonization had little effect on the volatilization behavior of cadmium and lead, but could reduce the volatilization rate of zinc. Although the absolute volatilization rates of chromium and nickel increased, the total emissions of heavy metals decreased. Hydrothermal carbonization at 230 degrees Celsius showed the most significant reductions in absolute volatilization rates of heavy metals.

Effect of ionic liquid assisted hydrothermal carbonization on the properties and gasification reactivity of hydrochar derived from eucalyptus

Zhongyi Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between carbonization temperature, ionic liquid solution and the properties of hydrochar obtained from eucalyptus through hydrothermal carbonization. Results showed that the reactivity of hydrochar prepared with ionic liquid was higher, with SEM analysis revealing vesicles on the surface and XRD/Raman results showing a more disordered crystal structure in the presence of IL. XPS and Raman results indicated an increase in C-O contents on the hydrochar surface after adding IL, suggesting IL can promote opening the loop of aromatic nucleus of biomass.
