A review on catalytic pyrolysis for high-quality bio-oil production from biomass

Tewodros Kassa Dada et al.

Summary: This review article focuses on the application of catalytic pyrolysis for obtaining high-quality bio-oil and advanced techniques for bio-oil characterization. The results show that two-dimensional gas chromatography technique can identify a majority of chromatograph in bio-oil analysis, but combining with other analytical techniques is needed for accurate quantification of bio-oil components.

A kinetic study and thermal decomposition characteristics of palm kernel shell using model-fitting and model-free methods

Maham Hussain et al.

Summary: The thermal decomposition of palm kernel shells (PKS) under non-isothermal conditions was studied using a thermogravimetric analyzer. A comparison between model-free and model-fitting approaches for PKS decomposition was performed. The results showed that the apparent activation energy increased with conversion. Furthermore, the Sestak-Berggren model was found to be a better fit for the PKS pyrolysis mechanism compared to the reaction order model. The components, including moisture, hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin, were found to decompose simultaneously, with lignin decomposing at a slower rate compared to hemicellulose and cellulose.

Catalytic pyrolysis of petroleum-based and biodegradable plastic waste to obtain high-value chemicals

Koranit Saeaung et al.

Summary: Petroleum-based plastics and biodegradable plastics were processed by thermal and catalytic pyrolysis for chemical recycling, resulting in valuable chemical products. The study showed that pyrolysis temperature and catalyst significantly influenced the composition and yield of pyrolysis liquids. Spent FCC catalyst reduced wax production and increased gasoline-range hydrocarbons and aromatics.

A map of the extent and year of detection of oil palm plantations in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand

Olga Danylo et al.

Summary: This study used Sentinel 1 imagery to create an oil palm plantation map for Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand in 2017, while determining the age of these plantations through a Landsat time series approach. This information is critical for calculating yields and understanding trends in oil palm plantation expansion.
