Hydrochar pellet produced from hydrothermal carbonization of fecal sludge

Krailak Fakkaew et al.

Summary: Hydrochar produced from fecal sludge was pelletized using a hydraulic press at various mixing ratios. The pelletizing process increased the density and compressive strength of the hydrochar pellets, while the energy content remained stable. Adding water decreased the density and compressive strength of the pellets.

Efficient adsorption of methylene blue on carboxylate-rich hydrochar prepared by one-step hydrothermal carbonization of bamboo and acrylic acid with ammonium persulphate

Bo-Wen Lv et al.

Summary: In this study, hydrochar rich in carboxylate groups (AAHC) was prepared by one-step hydrothermal carbonization of bamboo and acrylic acid with the presence of ammonium persulphate, and then activated using a sodium hydroxide solution. Despite a small BET surface area of 5.03 m2g-1, AAHC showed excellent adsorption capacity for methylene blue due to the richness of carboxylate groups. Adding a small amount of ammonium persulfate played an important role in enhancing the BET surface, pore volume, and carboxylate groups of AAHC produced in HTC, indicating the effectiveness of the method combining HTC and polymerization for preparing carboxylate-rich hydrochar.

Study of hydrochar and process water from hydrothermal carbonization of sea lettuce

Ankita Shrestha et al.

Summary: The research explores the potential utilization of sea lettuce for production of value-added products through hydrothermal carbonization process. The hydrochar obtained has higher heating value and carbon content compared to raw sea lettuce, with recovery of nutrients from process water. Co-digestion of process water with food waste shows increased gas production, indicating the promising feedstock for hydrothermal carbonization.
