Effects of air-prepared atmosphere on the Pb2+ adsorption of sludge-based adsorbent

Chaochen Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, a sludge-based adsorbent called SBA-Air was prepared using rapid pyrolysis under an air atmosphere for the adsorption of Pb2+ from aqueous solutions. The results showed that SBA-Air had comparable adsorption capacity to SBA-N-2 prepared under an N-2 atmosphere, and the adsorption performance could be adjusted by varying the initial solution pH, adsorbent dosage, and adsorption time. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the Pb2+ adsorption onto SBA-Air was spontaneous and endothermic, with chemical adsorption being the main mechanism. These findings suggest that sewage sludge can be converted into an effective, reusable, and environmentally friendly adsorbent for Pb2+ adsorption under a simple and low-cost air preparation atmosphere.
