The concept of urban sustainable development has gained attention in Taiwan, with the aim to address rural population migration and aging issues and stimulate local economic activities. This study focuses on the driving forces, challenges, and restrictions of urban sustainable development, particularly on urban stakeholders. By analyzing these factors from various perspectives, new opportunities for urban sustainable development can be identified. The study applies four driving forces - cultural inheritance, environment preservation, economic development, and social consciousness - to assess the adoption strategies of urban sustainable development.
The concept of urban sustainable development has received increasing attention from the relevant Taiwan authorities. On the one hand, the concept of urban sustainable development can be adopted to address the migration and aging problems of the rural township population. On the other hand, the relevant authorities hoped to stimulate local economic activities, to attract the students and workers who had left the area, so that they would return to their hometowns to start a business or seek employment. Therefore, this study analyzes the driving forces of urban sustainable development, as well as its challenges and restrictions, with a focus on the urban stakeholders (residents, sojourners, and travelers). The urban stakeholders should have the opportunity to re-examine the future direction of urban sustainable development and to analyze the challenges involved from a variety of perspectives, thereby finding new opportunities for urban sustainable development. The four driving forces (cultural inheritance, environment preservation, economic development, and social consciousness) were applied to assess the adoption strategies of urban sustainable development. This study determined the status of satisfaction and importance for the driving aspects of urban sustainable development using the SIA (satisfaction & importance analysis) approach and analyzed the network relation structure based on the network relation map approach.
