Fractionation of Heavy Metals in Multi-Contaminated Soil Treated with Biochar Using the Sequential Extraction Procedure

Mahrous Awad et al.

Summary: The addition of biochar can safely reduce the toxicity of heavy metals to plants, but further research is needed to clarify the relationship between soil properties and potential mechanisms. This study investigated the fractionation of Pb, Cd, Zn, and Cu in naturally contaminated soil amended with biochar and found that soil pH and organic matter play a significant role in the redistribution of these metals. The study suggests that biochar can be an effective tool in reducing the risk of heavy metals in contaminated soil.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy vibrational bands study of Spinacia oleracea and Trigonella corniculata under biochar amendment in naturally contaminated soil

Uzma Younis et al.

Summary: FTIR spectroscopy can detect changes in the structure of chlorophyll molecules in plants, with the study showing that chlorophyll can mask or suppress other molecules' FTIR bands. Peaks of C = O bands with Mg and the C9 ketonic group of chlorophyll were observed in the spectra of spinach samples. The vibrational bands of C-H, N-H, and tetrapyrrole ring were more evident in the FTIR spectra of chlorophyll in fenugreek.

Salinity Stress in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in the Changing Climate: Adaptation and Management Strategies

Ayman EL Sabagh et al.

Summary: Salinity stress poses a serious threat to wheat production globally by negatively affecting growth and development, leading to diminished grain yield and quality. Wheat plants utilize various mechanisms to adapt to salinity stress and adaptation strategies have been developed to minimize its deleterious effects and ensure sustainable wheat production.
