Comparative Metabolic Profiling of Two Contrasting Date Palm Genotypes Under Salinity

Latifa Al Kharusi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to decipher the salinity tolerance mechanism in date palm based on metabolomic profiles, revealing the involvement of various metabolic pathways such as lipid biosynthesis, antioxidant production, osmotic pressure regulation, and hormonal balance adjustment. The results indicate a multi-dimensional mechanism for salinity tolerance in date palm, with modifications observed in cell-wall and cellular membranes, production of antioxidants, adjustment of osmotic pressure, and possible alteration of hormonal balance. The intracultivar metabolomic profile comparison strategy used in this study may pave the road towards identifying salt tolerance mechanisms in date palms based on final protein products.

Physiological responses of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) seedlings to seawater and flooding

Baoguo Du et al.

Summary: Date palm seedlings exposed to seawater flooding experienced reduced gas exchange, increased Na and Cl contents in leaves and roots, and decreased abundance of foliar compatible solutes. However, they showed tolerance towards seawater exposure and high tolerance to flooding.

Zahra Jabeen et al.

Summary: The study showed that sodium nitroprusside (SNP) can effectively improve the growth and productivity of soybean under salinity stress by regulating antioxidant mechanism. SNP treatment enhanced root and shoot length, fresh and dry weight, chlorophyll contents, and activities of various antioxidant enzymes, alleviating damage to cell organelles under salinity stress.

Foliar application of ascorbic acid enhances salinity stress tolerance in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) through modulation of morpho-physio-biochemical attributes, ions uptake, osmo-protectants and stress response genes expression

Amara Hassan et al.

Summary: The present study found that salinity stress significantly reduced plant growth, biomass, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange parameters, stomatal properties, and ion uptake, while inducing oxidative stress by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plant cells/tissues.
