Z-scheme heterojunction of low conduction band potential MnO2 and biochar-based g-C3N4 for efficient formaldehyde degradation

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: A novel MnO2 photocatalyst with low conduction band potential was developed, and a biochar/MnO2/g-C3N4 photocatalyst demonstrated superior formaldehyde degradation activity. The introduction of MnO2 significantly increased the concentration of singlet oxygen and minimized electron-hole recombination in the photocatalyst system. This Z-scheme heterojunction-based photocatalyst provides a platform technology for the degradation of VOCs.

Identifying N fertilizer management strategies to reduce ammonia volatilization: Towards a site-specific approach

M. Mencaroni et al.

Summary: This study conducted in the Veneto region of Italy proposed a conceptual framework to identify the most effective BATs for reducing NH3 emissions at a site-specific level. The results showed that closed-slot injection is the most promising technology for reducing NH3 emissions, although it may lead to an increase in nitrate leaching in certain cases.

Biochar ageing in polluted soils and trace elements immobilisation in a 2-year field experiment

Paloma Campos et al.

Summary: This study conducted a 2-year field experiment on the application of biochar in soils contaminated with trace elements, finding that biochars significantly adsorbed trace elements from polluted soils but did not reduce the concentration of available metals. Additionally, degradation of biochars was observed after 2 years of ageing under field conditions.

Biochar Tablets with and without Embedded Fertilizer on the Soil Chemical Characteristics and Nutrient Use Efficiency of Zea mays

Yit Leng Lee et al.

Summary: Densification of ashy biochar into tablets enhances handling and conveyance efficiencies, while fertilizer-embedded biochar tablets can slowly release nutrients for optimum crop uptake. Co-application of biochar and fertilizer improves soil properties and plant nutrient use efficiency, making it recommended for sweet corn production.

Ammonia volatilization from urea in alfalfa field with different nitrogen application rates, methods and timing

Yunling Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that under center pivot irrigation, two-year cumulative NH3 loss was similar to broadcasting but higher than banding; with increasing N application rates, NH3 loss also increased while loss rate decreased; sprinkler fertigation at dusk was more effective in reducing NH3 loss.
