Effects of different tillage practices on the distribution of soil total nitrogen and carbon/nitrogen ratio at different soil depths in a double rice cropping system

Jian-Ying Qi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different tillage practices on soil total nitrogen and the carbon/nitrogen ratio, showing that long-term rice straw retention significantly increased STN content, lowered the C/N ratio, and improved rice yield.

The effect of agroecosystem management on the distribution of C functional groups in soil organic matter: A review

Yuki Audette et al.

Summary: To improve soil health and aid in climate change mitigation, it is important to maintain or increase the quantity of soil organic matter (SOM) and consider the stability of soil organic carbon (SOC). Stability of SOC can be enhanced through various mechanisms, including changes in the distribution of C functional groups of SOM, which can be influenced by agricultural management practices. Fertilization, tillage, crop rotation, grazing, and liming practices all play a role in modifying the distribution of C functional groups of SOM, with crop rotation and tillage practices potentially having a greater impact than fertilization management.
