Different dietary protein sources influence growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immunity, fecal microbiota and metabolites in weaned piglets

Lianhua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of hydrolyzed wheat protein (HWP), fermented soybean meal (FSBM), and enzyme-treated soybean meal (ESBM) on weaned piglets. The results showed that ESBM had advantages over the other two protein sources in improving growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immunity, fecal microbiota, and metabolites in piglets.

Dietary nucleotide supplementation as an alternative to in-feed antibiotics in weaned piglets

G. A. C. Valini et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that nucleotide supplementation had a similar effect to antibiotics on piglet performance and was superior in enhancing intestinal health. Nucleotides improved gut health by modulating local immune response and intestinal mucosa development, suggesting they may be an alternative to antibiotics as growth promoters.

Dietary Inclusion of Blood Plasma with Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) Supplementation Enhanced the Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Lactobacillus Count, and Reduced Gas Emissions in Weaning Pigs

Vetriselvi Sampath et al.

Summary: The experiment showed that supplementing piglets with blood plasma and yeast significantly improved growth performance, nutrient digestibility, fecal microbial, and reduced harmful gas emissions. This suggests that the dietary supplement with blood plasma and yeast could serve as an excellent alternative to antibiotics growth promoters in the diet of weaned piglets.

Puerarin enhances intestinal function in piglets infected with porcine epidemic diarrhea virus

Mengjun Wu et al.

Summary: Puerarin was found to alleviate intestinal injury in piglets infected with PEDV by reducing morbidity, improving antioxidant capacity, modulating immune responses, and regulating gut microbiota composition, indicating its potential as a promising supplement for the prevention of PEDV infection.

Investigation of Early Supplementation of Nucleotides on the Intestinal Maturation of Weaned Piglets

Federico Correa et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the short-term effect of oral administration of nucleotides before and after weaning on growth performance, health, development of the intestinal immunity and microbiome of piglet. Nucleotide supplementation did not influence the growth performance of piglets but may have expressed a positive effect on pig microbiota anticipating its maturation at weaning, with possible immunostimulant activity on the intestinal immune system. Nucleotides are essential for the development of the gastrointestinal tract and immune function, but their intake with milk by piglets could be insufficient.

Gut health: The results of microbial and mucosal immune interactions in pigs

Jie Peng et al.

Summary: The composition of the pig intestinal flora and the characteristics of intestinal mucosal immunity are closely related, with imbalances potentially leading to compromised health. Understanding the interaction between intestinal microorganisms and the mucosal immune system is crucial for maintaining overall well-being.
