Metabolic and immunological effects of gut microbiota in leaf beetles at the local and systemic levels

Meiqi Ma et al.

Summary: Insects' intestinal microbes have profound effects on their host's physiological traits. This study investigated the impact of gut microbiota on the body mass, nutrition status, and immunity of P. versicolora larvae, shedding light on tissue-specific responses to gut microflora at the genetic level.

Antennal Transcriptome Analysis and Identification of Candidate Chemosensory Genes of the Harlequin Ladybird Beetle, Harmonia axyridis (Pallas) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

Gabriele Rondoni et al.

Summary: Limited knowledge exists regarding the mechanisms underlying the sense of smell and taste in the predatory harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis. This study describes the first chemosensory gene repertoire expressed in the antennae of male and female H. axyridis, paving the way for future studies aiming at increasing the efficacy of biological control or reducing its populations in invasive areas.

Antennal transcriptome sequencing and identification of candidate chemoreceptor proteins from an invasive pest, the American palm weevil, Rhynchophorus palmarum

Francisco Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The American palm weevil and the red palm weevil pose threats to palm trees, with management efforts using semiochemicals but still incomplete. Through studying the adult antennal transcriptome, a better understanding of olfaction mechanisms and identification of important candidate genes have been achieved.

Synergistic action of the gut microbiota in environmental RNA interference in a leaf beetle

Letian Xu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the complex interaction between lethal dsRNA, the insect host, and its gut microbiota. Ingestion of dsRNA by the leaf beetle caused a dysbiosis of gut bacterial community, and the dsRNA degradation products preferentially promoted the growth of an entomopathogenic bacterium, accelerating dsRNA-induced mortality in the insect pests.

Identification and analysis of olfactory genes in Dioryctria abietella based on the antennal transcriptome

Ya Xing et al.

Summary: In this study, the antennal transcriptomes of the coneworm Dioryctria abietella were established for the first time, identifying 132 putative chemosensory genes. The expression patterns of these genes showed differences in male and female antennae, laying a foundation for further research on the chemosensory mechanisms of this pest.

Identification and Expression Profile of Chemosensory Genes in the Small Hive Beetle Aethina tumida

Lixian Wu et al.

Summary: The small hive beetle is a destructive pest of honeybees, lacking in chemosensory genes like odorant receptors and gustatory receptors. High expression of OBPs and CSPs in the antennae suggests potential targets for environmentally friendly pest control measures. Further research into the chemosensory genes of Aethina tumida could lead to the development of new pest control methods.
