Experimental Design of Solid Particle Wear Behavior of Ni-Based Composite Coatings

Pragyan Senapati et al.

Summary: The study varied the composition of nickel-based metal matrix NiCrBSi by adding 5%, 10% and 15% Al2O3 particles to achieve high wear resistant coatings through HVOF thermal spraying process. The coating with 15% Al2O3 at 33 m/s impact velocity and 30 degrees impingement angle showed the best performance in minimizing volume loss. Analysis indicated that impact angle and composition were the key factors contributing to volumetric loss.

Effect of spraying power on the morphology of YSZ splat and micro-structure of thermal barrier coating

Yuyan Wang et al.

Summary: Yttria partially stabilized zirconia splats and their macroscopic thermal barrier coatings were prepared using atmospheric plasma spraying. Through image analysis and scanning electron microscopy, it was found that different pores and cracks were formed during the spraying process. The study revealed that the spraying power played a significant role in altering the morphology of the splats, leading to the formation of horizontal cracks and pores at low power and vertical cracks at high power.

Solid particle erosion studies of thermally deposited alumina-titania coatings on an aluminum alloy

Chellaganesh Duraipandi et al.

Summary: Thermal barrier coatings are commonly used as surface modifications to improve material properties and protect against surface degradations like erosion and corrosion. Ceramic-based coatings are particularly recommended for enhancing wear resistance in industrial applications. The study in this paper focused on depositing an alumina-titania ceramic powder onto an aluminum alloy using atmospheric plasma spray, with experiments revealing that the coated sample had a shorter lifespan and higher erosion rate compared to the base metal, indicating severe surface damage on the aluminum alloy when eroded.

Erosion wear behavior of NiCr+Cr3C2-NiCr coating under multi-impact angle and novel coating structure design

Haiyang Lu et al.

Summary: The study proposes a novel coating structure by combining two different coatings to improve erosion wear resistance at different impact angles, effectively prolonging the life of the impeller. The experimental results validate the proposed erosion rate model with an error within 9.15%, demonstrating the ability to regulate erosion rate along the entire eroded surface.

Microstructural characterization and electrochemical corrosion behaviour of HVOF sprayed Alloy718-nanoAl2O3 composite coatings

Hitesh Vasudev et al.

Summary: The microstructural evolution and corrosion behavior of high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) sprayed Alloy718-nano Al2O3 composite coatings were studied. The coating with 30 wt.% nano-Al2O3 particles exhibited the highest microhardness and corrosion resistance, showing a maximum decrease in the electrochemically active area associated with this coating.
