Impact of hybrid cooling approach on milling and surface morphological characteristics of Nimonic 80A alloy

Nimel Sworna Ross et al.

Summary: Issues such as poor surface traits, short insert life, high manufacturing costs, and low productivity are commonly associated with the machining of nickel alloys. Research indicates that hybrid cooling/lubrication conditions considerably decrease temperature and specific cutting energy, reduce burr formation, and offer new advantages.

A Review of Indirect Tool Condition Monitoring Systems and Decision-Making Methods in Turning: Critical Analysis and Trends

Mustafa Kuntoglu et al.

Summary: The indirect tool condition monitoring systems provide a way to track the condition of cutting tools through various energy types, without direct intervention in the cutting zone. This study reviews the sensors commonly used in indirect tool condition monitoring systems and their correlations with tool wear over the past two decades, highlighting the limited research on tool condition monitoring systems in turning and the need for detailed analysis of measured variables such as tool wear and vibration. Tool condition monitoring is essential for the development of Industry 4.0 in machining industry, paving the way for future advancements.

Investigations on tool wear, surface roughness, cutting temperature, and chip formation in machining of Cu-B-CrC composites

Usame Ali Usca et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the machinability characteristics of Cu matrix reinforced by B and ceramic CrC powders during dry turning operation. The results indicate that the reinforcement ratio has the greatest impact on flank wear, surface roughness, and cutting temperatures, while cutting speed and feed rate have secondary effects on cutting temperatures and surface roughness. The deformation mechanism in the material changes with cutting initiation due to the significant impact of reinforcement ratio, suggesting a need for further exploration to measure the machinability behavior of metal matrix composites.
