Extinction risk controlled by interaction of long-term and short-term climate change

Gregor H. Mathes et al.

Summary: Assessing extinction risk from climate drivers is a major goal of conservation science. Few studies, however, include a long-term perspective of climate change. The authors find that synergistic palaeoclimate interaction, where short- and long-term trends are aligned, can increase extinction risk by up to 40%, providing new insights into climate-change-induced biodiversity loss.

Habitat generalist species constrain the diversity of mimicry rings in heterogeneous habitats

Irina Birskis-Barros et al.

Summary: The coexistence of different mimicry rings in a community is influenced by selection pressures from habitat and mimicry, with habitat generalist species possibly preventing the formation of multiple mimicry rings.
