Compressive behavior of crump rubber reinforced epoxy composites

Kiran Shahapurkar

Summary: The study found that crump rubber reinforced epoxy composites exhibit high energy absorption and higher strain capacity, but their compression modulus and strength values are lower than pure epoxy. By increasing the crump rubber content, the energy absorption of the composite can be significantly improved.

Effects of Graphene Nanoplatelets on Mechanical and Fire Performance of Flax Polypropylene Composites with Intumescent Flame Retardant

Imran Ali et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding graphene nanoplatelets as reinforcement and synergist for IFR-based flax-polypropylene composites effectively enhances the mechanical and fire-retardant properties of the composites. Additionally, thermogravimetric analysis shows that strong interfacial bonding between graphene and polypropylene reduces the decomposition rate.

Green CoNi2S4/porphyrin decorated carbon-based nanocomposites for genetic materials detection

Mohammad Reza Saeb et al.

Summary: A one-pot synthesis method was used to develop green carbon-based nanocomposites as biosensors, which showed high sensitivity towards genetic materials and proteins due to the pi-pi interactions between porphyrin rings. Different forms of porphyrins were incorporated to optimize interactions with biomolecules and reach significant biosensor application, resulting in almost full quenching of fluorescence emission after addition of specific proteins and RNA. Surprisingly, the nanocomposites exhibited cytotoxicity in cell lines.

Processing of Hollow Glass Microspheres (HGM) filled Epoxy Syntactic Foam Composites with improved Structural Characteristics

Olusegun A. Afolabi et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to improve the structural characteristics of epoxy syntactic foam composites filled with hollow glass microspheres by reducing void content and enhancing HGM dispersion. A modified degassing technique was introduced during resin casting, leading to less than 5% void content and improved tensile and dynamic mechanical properties. Analysis using SEM, TEM, and density measurements confirmed the success of the improved degassing technique.
