Multifractal analysis of coal pore structure based on NMR experiment: A new method for predicting T2 cutoff value

Yang Zhao et al.

Summary: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to study the pore structure of four types of coal samples and analyze the multifractal characteristics. The results showed that all coal samples were dominated by micropores and had similar multifractal characteristics, with a linear relationship between T-2 cutoff values and multifractal characteristic parameters. Models were developed to predict T-2 cutoff values with high accuracy.

Impacts of mineral composition and pore structure on spontaneous imbibition in tight sandstone

Dengke Liu et al.

Summary: This research reveals that hydrophilic minerals can increase imbibition efficiency, and the development of tiny pores makes oil more easily replaced. Additionally, the enhancement of pore connectivity can also promote spontaneous imbibition.

Fractal characteristics of pore networks and sealing capacity of Ordovician carbonate cap rocks: A case study based on outcrop analogues from the Tarim Basin, China

Jun Wu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on revealing the pore networks and sealing capacity of the Ordovician carbonate cap rocks in the Tarim Basin. Three classes of cap rocks are defined based on their pore-throat structure, fractal dimension, and sealing capacity, with a strong positive correlation between increasing fractal dimension and sealing performance. Results suggest that the sealing capacity of the studied rocks increases with increasing fractal dimension, while decreasing significantly with an increasing amount of macropores. This work provides a relevant case study for further understanding of pore structures and sealing capacity of carbonate cap rocks.

Fractal Analysis of Tight Sandstone Petrophysical Properties in Unconventional Oil Reservoirs with NMR and Rate-Controlled Porosimetry

Fuyong Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the fractal characteristics of pore spaces in tight sandstones from the Ordos Basin in China, using NMR and RCP techniques. It showed that the fractal dimensions of pore spaces with movable fluids were negatively correlated with permeability and reservoir quality index, with fractal dimensions approaching 3 indicating less favorable petrophysical properties. Different fractal models were compared for calculating fractal dimensions, with the 3D capillary model found to be the most accurate for evaluating tight sandstone properties.
