New and old adjuvants in allergen-specific immunotherapy: With a focus on nanoparticles

Zhongtao Feng et al.

Summary: Allergic diseases have significantly increased in recent years, leading to a worldwide focus on efforts for curing and managing these disorders. Allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT) has gained attention as a means for managing allergic diseases, with adjuvants playing an important role in stimulating and shifting protective responses. Immunostimulatory adjuvants have gained increasing attention for ASIT, and this study reviews both old and new adjuvants used in allergen immunotherapy.

The Role of Enolases in Allergic Disease

Martha Beatriz Morales-Amparano et al.

Summary: Enolase is an important cytosolic enzyme that is highly conserved among different taxonomical groups and participates in various processes. It has been widely recognized as an allergen, especially in molds and yeasts. Studies have shown that enolase plays a significant role in allergic diseases.

Allergens and Adjuvants in Allergen Immunotherapy for Immune Activation, Tolerance, and Resilience

Erika Jensen-Jarolim et al.

Summary: Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) in Europe utilizes allergoid strategy to destroy or mask IgE epitopes and uses adjuvants to precipitate allergens at the injection site for effectiveness and safety, while subcutaneous AIT in the United States mainly uses nonadjuvanted extracts without allergoids.
