Cellular autofluorescence is magnetic field sensitive

Noboru Ikeya et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that endogenous autofluorescence in HeLa cells is sensitive to external magnetic fields, with a triplet-born radical pair mechanism explaining the observed magnetic field dependence. The B-1/2 value is determined to be 18.0 mT with a saturation value of 3.7%.

Thermal Deformations of Thermoplast during 3D Printing: Warping in the Case of ABS

Jakub Ramian et al.

Summary: This research focused on the thermal deformations of thermoplast during 3D printing using ABS filament. Twenty-seven cuboids with different attributes were printed on a 3D printer, captured by a thermal camera, and measured with a 3D scanner to analyze the warping process. The study formulated general conclusions on the impact of selected parameters on warping and proposed guidelines on reducing warping.

Magnetic Guiding with Permanent Magnets: Concept, Realization and Applications to Nanoparticles and Cells

Peter Bluemler

Summary: The concept of remote magnetic guiding, developed from the physics underlying a concept allowing for bijective force generation within magnet systems, can be implemented using either electro- or permanent magnets, with a focus on the latter due to their advantages. Equations for magnetic fields, forces, and velocities were derived in detail, discussing physical limits, special hydrodynamics of nanoparticle dispersions, technical constraints, possibilities of 3D guiding, and magnetic imaging techniques. The constructed magnet systems have shown potential for orienting, moving, and accelerating magnetic objects, including macroscopic objects, superparamagnetic nanoparticles, and cells with incorporated nanoparticles, and could potentially be scaled up to human size.

Self-Assembled Permanent Micro-Magnets in a Polymer-Based Microfluidic Device for Magnetic Cell Sorting

Lucie Descamps et al.

Summary: Magnetophoresis-based microfluidic devices allow for simple manipulation of micro-scale objects, especially with the integration of micrometer-scale permanent magnets made from NdFeB particles. These micro-magnets not only exhibit strong trapping capabilities but also enhance magnetic forces for efficient cell sorting and high-throughput sorting applications.
