Regulation of ribosomal protein genes: An ordered anarchy

Cyrielle Petibon et al.

Summary: Ribosomal protein genes are highly expressed in most cell types and are essential for cell growth and proliferation. Regulation of these genes involves both general and gene-specific mechanisms, allowing the cell to coordinate ribosome production while maintaining functional specialization and diversity. Posttranscriptional regulatory events play a key role in fine-tuning the expression of ribosomal protein genes and controlling potential variation in ribosome functions.

Local translation in nuclear condensate amyloid bodies

Phaedra R. Theodoridis et al.

Summary: This study investigates how solid-like amyloid bodies coordinate local nuclear protein synthesis during stress. It was found that these solid-like condensates facilitate translation by accumulating translationally active ribosomes. Additionally, regulatory ribosomal proteins and translation factors relocate to amyloid bodies to sustain nuclear protein synthesis.

Clinical Significance of PDCD4 in Melanoma by Subcellular Expression and in Tumor-Associated Immune Cells

Thuy T. Tran et al.

Summary: Targeting programmed cell death 1 (PDCD1) is a common treatment for melanoma, but little is known about the related protein PDCD4. High PDCD4 expression in melanoma is associated with improved survival and increased immune cell infiltration, making it a potential biomarker in the disease. Further research is needed to explore the interaction between PDCD4 and Pleckstrin Homology Domain Containing A5 (PLEKHA5) and evaluate the therapeutic potential of this pathway in melanoma brain metastasis.

LC-MS Based Draft Map of the Arabidopsis thaliana Nuclear Proteome and Protein Import in Pattern Triggered Immunity

Mohamed Ayash et al.

Summary: The plant nucleus, despite its importance in genetic information and gene expression, has been understudied. In this study, nuclear proteome fractions from Arabidopsis thaliana cells treated with two elicitors of plant immunity were analyzed. The research revealed potential nuclear protein import upon elicitation of immunity and changes in protein abundance in the nucleus related to plant immunity processes. Promiscuous ribosome assembly and the role of prohibitins and cytochrome C in plant immune responses were also highlighted.

Extraribosomal Functions of Cytosolic Ribosomal Proteins in Plants

Wei Xiong et al.

Summary: Ribosomes are essential translational machinery in cells, with plant cytosolic ribosomes composed of rRNAs and RPs. Apart from their roles in the ribosome, RPs also have extraribosomal functions, such as interactions with RNAs and non-ribosomal proteins. Some RPs in plants have been shown to be involved in processes like microRNA biogenesis, antiviral defenses, and immunity outside of the ribosome.

Ribosomal Protein L13 Participates in Innate Immune Response Induced by Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus

Junyong Guan et al.

Summary: Ribosomal protein L13 (RPL13) is involved in the antiviral immune response against foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), inhibiting viral replication by inducing the activation of NF-kappa B and IFN-beta genes. The interaction between FMDV 3C(pro) protease and RPL13 reduces the expression of RPL13, thereby counteracting its antiviral activity. This study provides new insights into cellular antiviral defenses and virus-antagonizing mechanisms.
