circST6GALNAC6 suppresses bladder cancer metastasis by sponging miR-200a-3p to modulate the STMN1/EMT axis

Shuo Tan et al.

Summary: Bladder cancer is an aggressive malignancy with high recurrence rates and distant metastasis, and circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important regulatory roles in cancer progression. In this study, circST6GALNAC6 was identified as downregulated in bladder cancer tissues and cells, inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition both in vitro and in vivo by sponging miR-200a-3p to regulate STMN1 expression. This SP1-induced circST6GALNAC6/miR-200a-3p/STMN1 axis provides potential prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for bladder cancer metastasis.

Structured elements drive extensive circular RNA translation

Chun-Kan Chen et al.

Summary: The study identified a high-throughput screening method to systematically discover RNA sequences that can direct circular RNA (circRNA) translation. Complementarity of 18S rRNA and structured RNA elements play important roles in driving circRNA translation. CircRNA-encoded proteins have tissue-specific distribution and play a role in antigen presentation.
