Therapy-Naive and Radioresistant 3-Dimensional Pancreatic Cancer Cell Cultures Are Effectively Radiosensitized by β1 Integrin Targeting

Josephine Goerte et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the potential of targeting beta 1 integrin to sensitize therapy-naive and radioresistant pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells. They found that inhibiting beta 1 integrin significantly increased radiosensitivity in both therapy-naive and radioresistant PDAC cell cultures. Triple inhibition of beta 1 integrin, protein kinase D1, and rearranged during transfection was the most effective in reducing 3D colony formation of radioresistant PDAC cells. The study suggests that beta 1 integrins are robust targets for overcoming radioresistance in PDAC and may contribute to improved patient survival.

RAD51: Beyond the break

Isabel E. Wassing et al.

Summary: RAD51, as the primary catalyst of homologous recombination (HR) in vertebrates, is not only involved in repairing double-stranded DNA breaks (DSBs), but its importance in DNA metabolism has also been increasingly recognized, with its function emerging as a double-edged sword in the interplay with DNA replication and the maintenance of genomic stability.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Global phosphoproteomics reveals DYRK1A regulates CDK1 activity in glioblastoma cells

Ariadna Recasens et al.

Summary: DYRK1A has been reported to have both tumour suppressive and oncogenic functions. In glioblastoma, its role depends on RB expression and the level of DYRK1A activity. Moderate DYRK1A inhibition increases proliferation, while complete inhibition leads to cell cycle arrest regardless of RB status.
