Hypoalbuminaemia, Not Biologic Exposure, Is Associated with Postoperative Complications in Crohn's Disease Patients Undergoing Ileocolic Resection

Ravi S. Shah et al.

Summary: This study found that preoperative biologics in Crohn's disease patients undergoing ileocolic resection were not significantly associated with 90-day postoperative intra-abdominal septic complications. Low preoperative albumin levels were independently associated with such complications, indicating its predictive value in infection risk assessment.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: Preoperative Vedolizumab and Postoperative Complications in Patients with IBD

Zain Moosvi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed early postoperative complications in patients with IBD receiving preoperative vedolizumab treatment, showing no significant differences compared to patients receiving anti-TNF-alpha treatment and no biologic treatment. Therefore, preoperative vedolizumab treatment is not associated with increased overall or infectious postoperative complications in patients undergoing abdominal surgery for IBD.
