Summary: This study demonstrated the diagnostic value of [18F]-florbetaben PET in patients with suspicion of cardiac amyloidosis, showing its ability to differentiate AL from ATTR or other mimicking conditions. This noninvasive tool may represent a promising method for the diagnosis of AL amyloidosis, which is often challenging and delayed.

Prognostic implications of left ventricular myocardial work indices in cardiac amyloidosis

Tor Skibsted Clemmensen et al.

Summary: This study suggests that left ventricular myocardial work may have prognostic value in cardiac amyloidosis patients by predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and all-cause mortality. Combining LVMWI and the apical-to-basal segmental work ratio can independently predict all-cause mortality. LVGLS, on the other hand, does not predict all-cause mortality in this patient population.

Summary: A combined clinical and genetic evaluation was able to identify an inherited cardiac disease in about one-quarter of the examined athletes. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in Children: Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Non-sarcomeric Causes

Emanuele Monda et al.

Summary: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy in children, with a diverse range of causes including sarcomeric gene mutations and non-sarcomeric causes. The age of onset and underlying etiology significantly impact the prognosis of children with HCM, and targeted approaches for non-sarcomeric etiologies have emerged in recent years. Etiological diagnosis is crucial in designing specific management and therapy for these rare disorders in children.

Summary: Cardiac amyloidosis is a serious infiltrative disease caused by the deposition of amyloid fibrils in the heart, which can be due to genetic variants or acquired conditions. With advances in imaging techniques, non-invasive diagnosis is now possible, showing that cardiac amyloidosis is more common than previously thought. The Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Disease has proposed definitions and diagnostic algorithms for cardiac amyloidosis.

Summary: Laboratory medicine and genetic investigations play an important role in monitoring athletes' health conditions. This study integrated biochemical, genetic investigations, and advanced imaging techniques to monitor a basketball player's health status, revealing abnormal levels of iron and bilirubin, and the presence of an intramyocardial bridge which may be causing the syncopes. Providing exhaustive personalized diagnostic work up for athletes is crucial for safeguarding their health and preventing irreversible disorders.
