Revisions for Periprosthetic Hip Infections Do Not Fail More Than Revisions for Aseptic Loosening, but Mortality is Higher

Maurizio Montalti et al.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes and survival rates of revision hip arthroplasties performed for periprosthetic hip infection (PHI) and aseptic loosening. The results showed similar preoperative and intraoperative parameters between the two cohorts, with comparable survival rates at 10 years. However, differences were observed in the reasons for rerevisions and mortality rates, with the PHI cohort having a higher mortality rate. These findings can help improve preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of revision surgeries.

What Are the Long-term Outcomes of Mortality, Quality of Life, and Hip Function after Prosthetic Joint Infection of the Hip? A 10-year Follow-up from Sweden

Peter Wildeman et al.

Summary: The study found that prosthetic joint infection after total hip arthroplasty has a negative impact on mortality, long-term health-related quality of life, and hip function. Modifiable factors such as the number of reoperations and surgical approach are associated with poorer hip function.
