Parotid sparing and quality of life in long-term survivors of locally advanced head and neck cancer after intensity-modulated radiation therapy

Silke Tribius et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of parotid sparing on quality of life in long-term survivors of head and neck cancer. The results show that patients with bilateral and unilateral parotid-sparing IMRT experience similar acute and late side effects and changes in quality of life after 60 months. This suggests that sparing one or both parotid glands has no significant effect on global quality of life over a 60-month period.
