Differential expression of intestinal genes in necrotic enteritis challenged broiler chickens with 2 different Clostridium perfringens strains

Kosar Gharib-Naseri et al.

Summary: The primary cause of necrotic enteritis in chickens is the NetB-positive Clostridium perfringens bacterium. This study evaluated the impact of two pathogenic C. perfringens strains on gut health and gene expression in broilers, finding that the challenge is detrimental to performance and different strains can modulate the severity of the disease through gene expression.

Transversal gene expression panel to evaluate intestinal health in broiler chickens in different challenging conditions

L. Criado-Mesas et al.

Summary: A custom gene expression panel was developed to assess gene expression changes in poultry under challenging conditions. Results showed higher expression of genes related to barrier function and nutrient transport in chickens raised in healthy conditions, while birds challenged with C.perfringens had higher expression of genes involved in immune response. Eimeria challenge altered expression of genes related to barrier function and metabolism, increasing expression of genes related to immune response and oxidative stress. This panel provides insights into broiler response to pathogen challenge and differences in gene expression patterns under coccidial vaccine or NE.
