Role of Metabolic Endotoxemia in Systemic Inflammation and Potential Interventions

Shireen Mohammad et al.

Summary: Diet-induced metabolic endotoxemia can lead to chronic inflammatory conditions due to changes in gut permeability, causing toxins to enter the bloodstream and triggering systemic inflammation. verschiedenen pro-inflammatory cytokines, resulting in chronic low-grade inflammation.

Prevalence and correlates of chronic fatigue syndrome and post-traumatic stress disorder after the outbreak of the COVID-19

Leila Simani et al.

Summary: The prevalence of CFS among patients with COVID-19 is similar to that in the general population, and PTSD in patients with COVID-19 is not associated with an increased risk of CFS. Medical institutions should pay attention to the psychological consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Potential role of microbiome in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelits (CFS/ME)

Giuseppe Francesco Damiano Lupo et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant differences in the intestinal microbiota and metabolomic profile between CFS/ME patients and healthy controls, indicating characteristics of dysbiosis. Specific microbial compositions were observed in the oral and fecal samples of CFS/ME patients, along with abnormal levels of certain substances detected in the metabolomic analysis. Further research is needed to determine the causality and potential relationship between microbial changes and the onset of CFS/ME, as well as their association with secondary symptoms.

Adolescent and Young Adult ME/CFS After Confirmed or Probable COVID-19

Lindsay S. Petracek et al.

Summary: COVID-19 infection may trigger ME/CFS in adolescents and young adults. Patients exhibited orthostatic intolerance symptoms early in the illness, and met criteria for ME/CFS after 6 months. Comorbid features like neuromuscular limitations, orthostatic intolerance, allergies, and neurologic abnormalities should be further studied for potential interventions.

Chronic fatigue syndrome: an emerging sequela in COVID-19 survivors?

Elisa Mantovani et al.

Summary: The study found that 27% of SARS-CoV-2 survivors exhibit symptoms resembling ME/CFS, with these individuals showing worse sleep quality, fatigue, pain, depressive symptoms, and cognitive complaints. This raises concerns about a potential future pandemic of ME/CFS-like symptoms in SARS-CoV-2 survivors.

FOS/GOS attenuates high-fat diet induced bone loss via reversing microbiota dysbiosis, high intestinal permeability and systemic inflammation in mice

Zheng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study revealed that long-term high-fat diet can lead to decreased bone mass, dysbiosis of gut microbiota, leaky gut, and systemic inflammation. Administration of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and/or galactooligosaccharides (GOS) significantly improved bone loss, regulated imbalanced differentiation of intestinal cells, reduced dysbiosis and gut permeability, decreased expression of inflammatory cytokines, ultimately protecting against high-fat diet-induced osteopenia.

Shadow Burden of Undiagnosed Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) on Society: Retrospective and Prospective-In Light of COVID-19

Diana Araja et al.

Summary: ME/CFS is a complex disorder with severe fatigue and other symptoms, causing substantial reductions in functional activity and quality of life. The study investigates undiagnosed ME/CFS patients, with a focus on potential post-viral CFS as a consequence of COVID-19. Results show that former COVID-19 patients report more anxiety and fatigue symptoms compared to ME/CFS patients and undiagnosed patients.

Potential of Activin B as a Clinical Biomarker in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)

Sabine Gravelsina et al.

Summary: The study found no significant difference in activin B levels between ME/CFS patients and healthy controls, with no gender or age-related differences observed either. Activin B levels tended to decrease with increasing visual analogue scale score, but the results do not support its clinical utility as a biomarker for ME/CFS at this time.

Central sensitisation in chronic pain conditions: latest discoveries and their potential for precision medicine

Jo Nijs et al.

Summary: Chronic pain is a major cause of disability and high healthcare costs globally. Central sensitisation, amplification of neural signalling in the CNS leading to pain hypersensitivity, has been investigated as a reason for discrepancy between tissue damage extent and pain severity. Central sensitisation varies among patients with different pain conditions, predicting poor treatment outcomes and suggesting the importance of individual assessment and treatment strategies.
