Efficacy of tocilizumab in patients with hand osteoarthritis: double blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, multicentre trial

Pascal Richette et al.

Summary: The study found that tocilizumab was not more effective than placebo in relieving pain in patients with hand osteoarthritis. Apart from the primary endpoint, there were no significant differences in secondary outcomes between the tocilizumab group and the placebo group.

Short-term transcutaneous non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation may reduce disease activity and pro-inflammatory cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis: results of a pilot study

A. M. Drewes et al.

Summary: In patients with active rheumatoid arthritis, transcutaneous non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (n-VNS) showed anti-inflammatory effects by reducing disease activity scores, C-reactive protein levels, and interferon-gamma. However, in patients with inactive disease, n-VNS did not affect disease activity scores, but led to a decrease in cardiac vagal tone and interleukin-10 levels.

Innervation and Neuronal Control of the Mammalian Sinoatrial Node a Comprehensive Atlas

Peter Hanna et al.

Summary: This study provides an in-depth examination of the innervation of the sinoatrial node by the right atrial ganglionated plexus in porcine and human hearts. It demonstrates the significant phenotypic diversity of neurons in the ganglionated plexus and their role in modulating cardiac function. The findings suggest that intrinsic cardiac neurons play a crucial role in controlling specific regions of the heart and could pave the way for targeted therapies in the future.

International Consensus Based Review and Recommendations for Minimum Reporting Standards in Research on Transcutaneous Vagus Nerve Stimulation (Version 2020)

Adam D. Farmer et al.

Summary: Transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) is gaining interest in basic, translational, and clinical research due to its non-invasive nature. Future studies need to focus on reporting practices, stimulation parameters, and participant safety to advance the field. Additionally, advancements in animal research may have implications for the application of tVNS in humans.

Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation reduces pain and fatigue in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a randomised, double-blind, sham-controlled pilot trial

Cynthia Aranow et al.

Summary: In this study, non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation was shown to significantly reduce pain, fatigue, and joint scores in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Further studies are needed to evaluate the intervention and its mechanisms.
