Changes in segment coordination variability and the impacts of the lower limb across running mileages in half marathons: Implications for running injuries

Tony Lin-Wei Chen et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of a prolonged run on segment coordination variability (CV) and vertical loading rates. Results showed that running mileage had a significant effect on segment coordination variability, but did not have a significant effect on loading rate. Notably, an increase in CV between the pelvis and thigh was observed with increased running mileage, which may indicate early signs of fatigue and potential injury risk.

A Comparative Biomechanical Analysis during Planned and Unplanned Gait Termination in Individuals with Different Arch Stiffnesses

Xuanzhen Cen et al.

Summary: The study found that both stiff and flexible arches have a significant impact on plantar pressure distribution and lower extremity joint kinematics during gait termination, with unplanned gait termination showing a larger range of motion in the hip and knee joints compared to planned gait termination. Differences in lower limb joint kinematics caused by arch stiffness primarily concentrate in the ankle and metatarsophalangeal joints. Plantar pressure data indicated significant differences in the forefoot and rearfoot areas.

Influence of arch support heights on the internal foot mechanics of flatfoot during walking: A muscle-driven finite element analysis

Yinghu Peng et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the arch support height reduced peak foot pressures during balanced standing and the second VGRF, but increased midfoot pressures during all simulated instants. High arch support decreased plantar fascia loading in proximal regions but increased in middle and distal regions.
