Effects of β-glucan, probiotics, and synbiotics on obesity-associated colitis and hepatic manifestations in C57BL/6J mice

Vuong Vu et al.

Summary: This study showed that modulating gut bacteria with beta-glucan and probiotics improved obesity-associated colitis, with synbiotics having a stronger and broader effect compared to individual treatments. Synbiotics were able to promote the growth of both indigenous and supplemented probiotic strains, resulting in improved gut health.

Functional Constipation and the Gut Microbiome in Children: Preclinical and Clinical Evidence

David Avelar Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Functional constipation is a common condition in childhood that continues to persist in a significant number of children despite conventional management. The refractory and chronic nature of constipation emphasizes the importance of considering various pathophysiological mechanisms, including the potential role of the gut microbiome.

Synbiotic supplementation with prebiotic Schizophyllum commune derived β-(1,3/1,6)-glucan and probiotic concoction benefits gut microbiota and its associated metabolic activities

Vineet Singh et al.

Summary: Synbiotics, combining prebiotics and probiotics, modulate gut microbiota to promote host metabolic health, with prebiotics increasing total bacterial abundance and immune strengthening, and synbiotic and probiotic interventions enhancing similar metabolisms. Probiotics treatment also depletes specific metabolic activities related to SCFA productions compared to prebiotics treatment, suggesting synbiotics may provide more beneficial effects over probiotics and prebiotics.

Metagenomic Analysis of the Gut Microbiome Reveals Enrichment of Menaquinones (Vitamin K2) Pathway in Diabetes Mellitus

Nihar Ranjan Dash et al.

Summary: The study found that Gut microbiome of T2DM patients are enriched in metabolic pathways associated with vitamin K2 biosynthesis, which may be related to insulin resistance. T2DM patients with high glycosylated hemoglobin levels have different gene abundances in metabolic pathways, which could be significant for the development of new biomarkers and better management strategies for T2DM in the future.
