Sunlight mediated enhanced photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanoparticles functionalized CuO-Cu2O nanorods for removal of methylene blue and oxytetracycline hydrochloride

Jaspal Singh et al.

Summary: Metal free heterojunctions, like the CuO-Cu2O nanorods/TiO2 nanoparticles heterostructures synthesized in this study, show promising potential as low-cost photocatalysts. These heterojunctions have superior sunlight-induced photodegradation activity and can effectively remediate toxic wastewater.

Asymmetric defects in one-dimensional photonic lattices

Slavica Jovanovic et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of linear and nonlinear asymmetric defects on light beam propagation in a one-dimensional photonic lattice was numerically analysed. It was found that the width of asymmetric defects plays a significant role in light beam propagation, and various types of strongly localized defect modes were observed at different positions, along with reflection and transmission of light.

Highly promoted hydrogen production enabled by interfacial P-N chemical bonds in copper phosphosulfide Z-scheme composite

Xiandi Zhang et al.

Summary: Studies on copper phosphosulfide coupled with graphene-like C3N4 as a photocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction showed that the interfacial P-N chemical bond constructing a Z-scheme heterostructure is crucial for the impressive photocatalytic activity. Time-resolved photoluminescence analysis revealed a significantly suppressed recombination rate of photoexcited charge carriers at the interface, facilitating electron transfer and enhancing the reducibility of electrons in the conduction band of copper phosphosulfide.

Epitaxially grown copper phosphide (Cu3P) nanosheets nanoarchitecture compared with film morphology for energy applications

Suk Woo Lee et al.

Summary: A facile process for forming a nanoarchitecture of copper phosphide nanosheets on copper foil was reported, showing significant improvements in both capacity and rate capability of lithium-ion batteries. However, in hydrogen evolution reaction, the higher electrocatalytic efficiency of the nanoarchitectured electrode was only maintained in the initial cycles due to morphology reconstruction of Cu3P.

Photoluminescence properties of cuprous phosphide prepared through phosphating copper with a native oxide layer

Xue Peng et al.

Summary: Cuprous phosphide (Cu3P) has been found to emit near-infrared light at 750 nm, with the PL emission enhanced by annealing and the presence of cuprous oxide. The mechanism behind this enhancement involves the improvement of crystal quality and the creation of a space charge region, providing a reference for improving the PL properties of p-type semiconductors.

Effect of Cu addition on the properties of the RF magnetron-sputtered Cu2O thin films

Boen Houng et al.

Summary: RF magnetron sputtering was utilized to fabricate Cu-doped Cu2O thin films, demonstrating that Cu doping enhances densification and increases grain size of the films, as well as leading to a structural transition from CuO and Cu4O3 to Cu2O. The dense and well-defined columnar morphology observed in the films under TEM, along with the electrical and optical properties including resistivity, carrier density, mobility, optical transmission, and band gaps, were also evaluated and found to be influenced by the concentration of Cu doping.
